We often get asked for recommendations for therapists who specialize in working with those who are childless. It can be challenging to answer because not many therapist directories include childlessness as a specialty issue.

For example, if you were looking for a therapist on Psychology Today, you could filter results to find someone who specializes in infertility, women’s issues, or grief - but there’s no option for therapists to indicate that they specialize in childlessness. As a result, there is no way for you to use a filter to find someone with this specialty either.

If you can give five minutes of your time today, you can help. We’re asking our community and those who love us to contact Psychology Today to ask them to add “Childless Not By Choice” as a specialty issue in their therapist directory. Their directory is one of the largest and most widely used and includes therapists in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, the U.K., Austria, Belgium, France, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Africa.

Imagine the impact if our childless friends in all these places could search for therapists who specialize in childlessness, with just the click of a button.

So, have five minutes to make this happen? Good. We’re making it really easy for you to ask Psychology Today to add “Childless Not By Choice” as a specialty issue. Here’s how:

🖤Head to the link in my bio where you’ll find an email template you can use and the email address of where to send it. Feel free to personalize this!

🖤Create an IG post or send a DM that describes the difficulty you’ve had finding a therapist who gets it or how being childless has impacted you. Be sure to tag @psych_today .

That’s all there is to it! Being part of a community that is often misunderstood and overlooked can leave us feeling disempowered. By taking action, we can advocate for our needs and the needs of our community.

What are you waiting for? Go contact Psychology Today, then head back here and tell us in the comments if you're feeling empowered.
